The Chinese smartphone market declined by 11% in the last quarter of 2018, analysts at Strategy Analytics report. Device shipments to China have declined for the fifth time in a row. In the fourth quarter of 2018, about 108 million smartphones were sold to the PRC, while 121.3 million devices entered the market last year. A large market share belongs to Huawei, while Apple and Xiaomi have weakened their positions. At the end of 2018, China received 408.5 million smartphones, which is 11% less than in 2017. Huawei’s market share in China rose to 28%, while brand shipments increased by 23% for the year. The reason for the company’s success is the range of devices and strong sales channels. In 2018, Huawei put on the market 26% of the total volume of smartphones, or 105 million units. The second position went to Oppo, which reduced shipments by 2% to 22.4 million smartphones. In third place was Vivo, which increased shipments by 8% to 22 million units. Apple shipments fell 22% in the last quarter of the year. The company sold 10 million units in October-December. Apple’s figures in the PRC have been declining over the past 12 quarters. The deterioration of results is influenced by the price of the device in China and the trade war between the PRC and the USA. Xiaomi took the fifth place in the ranking with a market share of 9.3% and a delivery indicator of 10 million devices.
