The European Commission is planning to impose a tax on aviation fuel

A study commissioned by the European Commission, showed that in the aviation sector of the European Union, CO2 emissions could be reduced by 10% due to a tax on aviation fuel of 0.33 Euro per liter. Therefore, the study recommends the European Commission to introduce such a tax, according to Le Monde. It is noted that, if we consider the introduction of tax in France, it will allow a 9% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from air transport, which corresponds to the withdrawal from the country’s roads of about 850,000 cars. Thanks to this measure, the French state budget would increase by more than 3.5 billion euros of additional tax revenue. According to forecasts, by 2037, the number of passengers transported by air transport will increase to 8.2 billion from 4.1 billion in 2017.
