Unemployment in the euro area fell in April to a minimum level since August 2008

In April, the euro area recorded the lowest unemployment rate since August 2008, which was 7.6% versus 7.7% in the previous month, Eurostat statistics showed. Experts had not expected a change in the March index. The total number of unemployed in the euro area countries in April was 12.529 million people, which is 64 thousand less than in the previous month. In annual terms, the figure fell by 1.147 million people. Unemployment in the European Union has not changed compared with March, keeping the lowest level since January 2000 at 6.4%. During the month, the number of unemployed decreased by 108 thousand, reaching 15.802 million people. In annual terms, the figure fell by 1.394 million people. The lowest unemployment rate was recorded in the Czech Republic – 2.1% and Germany – 3.2%. Greece showed the highest level – 18.5%.
